PHOTOMICROGRAPHS
These
images were created using a couple of different techniques. The
reflected light images were taken using the excellent and inexpensive
Digital Blue QX5 microscope. The cross-polarised (XPL) views were
imaged using an Olympus CH-2 microscope obtained relatively cheaply
from eBay, with polarising filters cut and ground from second-hand
photographic ones obtained from the same source. (A short article about attempting XPL with a cheap microscope can be found here)
The
first page is reflected images of meteorite specimens. The second page
has photos of terrestrial rocks in thin-section. The third is of
meteoritic thin-sections. The latter two are taken in cross-polarised
light.
