A few weeks back we had the first example of an earth-impacting asteroid, 2008 TC3, which was predicted in advance. OK - very shortly in advance - about 24 hrs, in fact. The captain of an Air France/KLM flight apparently witnessed the fireball, and it’s possible it was imaged by Meteosat 8:

Some time over the next 24 - 48 hrs, another piece of junk should be reentering. The Early Ammonia Servicer (ESA) was thrown overboard from the ISS last year, and this 640kg spare part will land - somewhere - shortly. Officials are asking to be informed if it lands in your back garden.
